Guru Nanak Jayanti 2025: Know How To Celebrate This Auspicious Day

Guru Nanak Sahib was the founder of Sikhism, one of several world’s newest doctrines. Guru Nanak is the first Sikh Guru whose divine principles paved the way for the formation of Sikhism. Guru Nanak, regarded as a spiritual visionary, migrated throughout Southern Asia and the Middle East to propagate his beliefs. They preached about characteristics of a specific Creator and persuaded Socrates supporters that with enough devotion and certain other spiritual rituals, either rational need might stretch over to God.

Guru Nanak opposed sacramental theology and advised religious believers to live an honourable householder’s existence. His principles remained preserved mainly in the context of 1974 choirs that became recognised as either the ‘Guru Granth Sahib,’ Sikhism’s holy scripture. Sikhism is among India’s most common denominations, including over two million adherents.

The Legend Of Guru Nanak Jayanti

Guru Nanak Dev Ji national education association, also known as Guru Nanak’s Abhishek Utsav of this auspicious day, is the anniversary of Guru Nanak Sahib. But as per the Hindu solar cycle, the organization’s initial representative was founded on the new moon day of the Kartik month. We usually celebrate Guru Nanak Jayanti in the month of November. On this day, the entire Sikh community visits nearby Gurdwaras and participates in langar (lunch). Sikhs begin the celebration of Guru Nanak Jayanti before the two weeks of the actual date. If we follow the Bikrami calendar, Guru Nanak Sahib took birth in the year 1469 in Rai-Bhoi-di Talwandi.

Then Sikh gurus Pyaras (Five Cherished Versions) lead the parade, carrying the Gurudwara Sahib (Sikh flag) and the Palki (the Cherry blossom tree, in which the Guru Granth Sahib was born ). This formation is accompanied by several performers who perform religious songs. The ‘Gatka’ departments demonstrate advanced master swordsman by numerous combat sports and simulated fights incorporating small arms throughout this Sikh festival.

Following that, the langar is served, which is a communal meal prepared by visitors of Gurudwaras. The principles of Guru Nanak Dev Ji are remembered in the form of various choral music for the remaining part of the day. Many of them also organized Akhand Path 48-hour before the birth anniversary day. Other devotees unfurl the Sikh flag known as the Nishan Sahib and the Palanquin of Guru Granth Sahib before starting a procession.

This same lack of willingness of the much-travelled founder to embrace the practice of many faiths in civilization, each espousing a specific deity, compelled him to burst unshackled of secular plurality and found a spirituality founded on a supernatural Deity. The three-day auspicious journey is a significant part of the Jayanti. The Granth Sahib is decorated with colourful and driven floats in a suitable parade in a settlement.

The famous Sikh Gurus or priests then lead the procession, where the guards represent the ‘Panj Pyaras’. In this ceremony, spiritual choruses from the Granth Sahib were also performed, which is a distinctive characteristic of the activity. Soon, the procession reaches Gurudwara, where worshippers begin the proceedings of the day.

The Sikh Identity

Sikhism came into the act by the spiritual learning provided by Guru Nanak. It is the fifth largest religion in the world. The last Sikh Guru, Gobind Singh convened religious supporters to Sikhism. Thereafter, over 80,000 people took part in mass-gathering. It is believed that Guru Gobind Singh brandished his sword to many before he sought a crown.

Then, as per his command, the five immigrants moved across parts of India, where they formed various ethnic groups. He conferred a comprehensive framework, a religion, upon those five Sikhs, and plenty of others, upon this iconic day. The Guru requested five Sikhs to be a part of the modern Khalsa structure, who, in exchange, enrol them in a spectacular and unprecedented motion.

Sikh identity depends upon the principles guidelines as given below:

How Did Guru Nanak Dev Ji Die?

Guru Nanak’s love for his spiritual teaching and humanity impressed many of his followers among Hindu, Muslim and Sikhs. When Guru Nanak took his last breath on his deathbed, the Sikh leader allowed only some of the devotees to dispose of his body.
Thereafter, many of them started reciting the prayers of Sohila and Japji Sahib. It is also believed that before dying, Guru Nanak passed his spiritual powers to his successor, Guru Angad Dev.

As per Hindu myths, when the philosopher Nanak died, a huge dispute between Hindu, Muslims and Sikhs took place. The core of the dispute was to bury the body of Guru Nanak Sahib at the hands of the chosen ones. However, after the settlement, the Hindus and Sikhs buried their Guru’s supernatural remnants as per the tradition. On the other hand, Muslims decided to perform the last rites by following cultural and traditional values.

Earlier, Guru Nanak requested the Hindus and Sikhs to arrange showers on the right side of his body, while Muslims marked on the bottom.

These religious organizations preceded Guru Nanak’s orders before he died. Because once they returned the very next moment to see whether the crops hadn’t yet withered away, individuals seemed shocked to find that neither of the roses shrivelled. The biggest revelation was that Guru Nanak’s remnants had vanished entirely, and only fresh flowers were seen unmoved.
