An international sports event that grabbed everyone’s attention towards Indian para-athletes keeps us counting India’s medal tally. After the historic win of Sunil Antil on the javelin throw, Mariyappan Thangavelu won silver at the Games.
The Tamil Nadu-born para-athlete began his search for gold in the high jump event. He made a high jump of 1.86 metres to take a silver medal (T42 category) at the international level. Thangavelu shared the podium with his fellow Indian mate, Sharad Kumar, who settled for bronze in the same event.

Mariyappan was born on June 28, 1995, in Salem, Tamil Nadu, when Venus and Jupiter came opposite each other. The favourable placement of Venus helps him achieve fame at a global level.
