One day his wife went to her father’s house without informing her husband. Tulsidas secretly went to his father-in-law’s house at night to meet him. This created a feeling of shame in the intellect. He told Tulsidas, “My body is a frame of flesh and bones. If in place of my dirty body you will develop even half of your love for Lord Rama, you will surely cross the ocean of samsara and attain immortality and eternal Will attain bliss. These words pierced the heart of Tulsidas like an arrow. He did not stay there even for a moment. He left home and became an ascetic. He spent fourteen years visiting various holy places of pilgrimage.
While returning from his daily routine in the morning, Tulsidas used to throw the remaining water in his water pitcher into the roots of a tree on which a soul lived. The soul was very pleased with Tulsidas ji. The soul said, “O man! I will fulfill your wish”. Tulsidas replied, “Let me see Lord Rama”. The soul said, “Go to Hanuman temple. Tulsi called him to his home, gave him sacred food that was offered to God and declared that the murderer had been purified. The Brahmins of Varanasi condemned Tulsidas and said, “How can the sin of a murderer be destroyed? How could you eat with him? Only if the sacred bull of Shiva-Nandi eats it from the hands of the murderer will we accept that it has been purified. The murderer was then taken to the temple and eaten out of his hands by the bull. The Brahmins accepted defeat out of shame.

Tulsidas came to the emperor’s court. The emperor asked the saint to perform a miracle. Tulsidas replied, “I do not have any supernatural power. I only know the name of Ram.” The emperor put Tulsi in prison and said, “I will release you only if you show me a miracle.” After this Tulsidas Ji prayed to Hanuman. Countless groups of powerful monkeys entered the royal court. The emperor became frightened and said, “O saint, forgive me. I now know your greatness”. He immediately released Tulsi from jail.
